I have the honour to acknowledge with

thanks the receipt of Your Excellency's despatch of the 6th.

instant and in continuation of my despatch No. 1 in 6854/08 of

the 20th. instant, I forward in original and translation a

letter received by Messrs. E. D. Sassoon & Co., from one of

their native opium customers regarding the seizure of 20 balls

of Malwa Opium in Kiangsi and the establishment of a farm in

that province.

I enclose also copy of a joint letter

dated the 21st. instant from Messrs. D. Sassoon and Co., Ld.

and Messrs. E. D. Sassoon & Co., regarding the action taken k

by the French Consul at Canton.
